My Beautiful Senegal, Unexpected Senegal.

I am Fabrizia, I am a journalist and a storyteller. In 2014 I moved to Senegal ad I have lived here ever since with my Italian-Senegalese family. Welcome to my home.

I conceived the project in 2021 and it came out in 2022. It sparks from the curiosity my friends and family always showed for my life as an expat and yet the hard time I always had answering their questions about Senegal. When I was living in New York it was easier, everybody had seen movies and read books about New York, most people had been there at least once in their lives. Telling stories about New York was never hard.

But Senegal…it’s another planet altogether! I was always under the impression that if you don’t see it for yourself you can’t really understand it.

My Beautiful Senegal is my world as a foreigner in the land of hospitality and it is my way of breaking the ice between Senegal and anyone interested in getting to know it and maybe come visit one day. I am just like your friend at the party insisting to introduce you to the tall guy with a beard because I am sure you guys would hit it off.

I have been living in Senegal for almost ten years now and yet I am always an outsider. My Beautiful Senegal is my invitation to share the front seat with me as I navigate my life as an adopted Senegalese. In the blog you will find Senegal Stories, big and small, personal and not personal. Writing for me is a way of explaining (also to myself) this amazing country, this culture so distant from mine, so complex, complicated but also beautiful and crazy generous.
